This week is Holy Week, the week during which for 2,000 years the followers of Jesus Christ have paused to remember his crucifixion and resurrection.
Unfortunately, during Holy Week of 2020 much of the world finds itself quarantined due to the Coronavirus. As a result, the question is “how can we worship the Lord during this strange time?”
For the past three weeks Mount Oak has been following the governor’s directives regarding large gatherings and social distancing, and we will continue to do so. During this time of emergency our church’s leadership believes it is important to follow the directions we receive from the leaders of our state. That said, on April 1st, 2020, Governor Hogan issued an important clarification. He said that churches were allowed to hold “drive-in services” on their property where the congregants participated in the service while remaining in their cars.
And so, with Governor Horgan’s directions in mind, and in keeping with the directions given to us by the CDC, the following is the worship schedule for Mount Oak this Holy Week.
Maundy Thursday, 7 :00 pm ONLINE – A worship service will be made available via our Facebook pages: “Mount Oak Fellowship” and “Mt. Oak Fellowship” as well as our church’s YouTube channel, “Mount Oak”. Although we will not be able to gather together to receive Holy Communion, this service will very much focus on the meaning of Christ’s sacrifice for us all.
Good Friday, 2:30 -3:00 pm LIVE – An outdoor, drive-in Good Friday service will be held by the cross and fire pit on the church grounds. The information you will need to be able to participate in this service will be made available through the church Facebook page, the church website (mtoak.org) and through a separate email. Please note: this service will take place in accordance with the directions handed down from the governor’s office. This means that everyone must remain in their cars, and will listen to the service using your FM radio. If you have a car radio with a vertical antenna, we are advising you to drive that car or truck to the service.

Good Friday, 7:00 pm ONLINE – A half-hour Good Friday service will be uploaded to our church’s Facebook pages and YouTube channel.
Easter Sunday, 9:00 am ONLINE – We will upload our digital worship service. Our worship team will be providing music and both Pastor Barnes and Pastor Butler will be offering brief messages.
Easter Sunday, 8:30 and 10:00 am LIVE – We will hold a 30-40 minute Easter service at the church parking lot. This service will be governed by the same rules as our LIVE Good Friday service. And please note: The ONLINE Easter service will be of a higher quality in many ways than the LIVE service. The main reason for attending the live service would be that worship is ultimately something that we give to God and there is something about the sheer act of getting up, dressing ourselves and then going somewhere to worship God that makes the act of worship more real.
Should there be any changes in our schedule notifications will be sent out using email, our Facebook page and our website, mtoak.org. In addition to that, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
